Wish it was a better product.

I have Aura speakers in my car and they are wonderful. That is one of the reasons that I tried this speaker. The other main reason was because of the low distortion and high s/n ratio which were far better than any of the others sound bars in this price range. Taking this out of the box, it has a nice hefty feel to it. The speaker cover comes off just like a home speaker. Hook up is easy, four different ways but does not have any outputs for a sub. I bought this for a computer speaker that I play games, watch tv and listen to music on.The first thing I did was play some music. It seemed to be ok but it kept making a rattling sound from the middle of the speaker. I kept putting my ear up against it and thought something was loose. I played Joe Jackson's song, "Is she really going out with him" and this "rattle" was not a rattle at all, it was some sort of harmonic vibration in the plastic. I took the speaker cover off and could not see anything loose. This wasnt a "am I hearing something" kind of sound it was a "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT NOISE"? It made this sound on other songs also. I tried wrapping my hands around the speaker to try and get it to stop and couldn't. It only seemed to make this sound in a certain frequency range and it was BAD.I then tried playing a game which was the main reason I bought this. I was hoping for some nice midrange sounds. This speaker was setting just above my monitor and only 2 feet away from my head so I could not turn up the volume very loud. I had the volume about 1/4 turn on my reciever and it sounded like the speakers were blown out. I kept hearing a muddy "blulala" sound, kind of like the sound when a speaker has been used too loud for too long.The lights that tell the volume and output do not have any print around them to tell what is happening or what source or effect you are listening too. Their kind of pretty but you have to memorize what each one does. I was expecting this speaker to do a bunch of different sound effects because Aura's website says it does 9 different SRS effects. You have a choice to use four effects. I could not tell any effects of surround sound, this might have been because I was so close to the speaker. You can tell a difference in the settings but it seemed like all it was doing was adding more amplification to the sound rather than changeing anything. The remote has two big buttons in the center for a sub, but you cannot connect your sub to this speaker so they are useless. Aura's website also says batteries are included, they were not.Conclusion: I really wanted to like this speaker. I've gotten years of use out of the auto speakers and when I bought them I compared them to many, many other speakers. They were the best I found. I've also been to concerts that have used Aura's 18" subs and it was as if someone was slapping you in the chest. This little speaker is unfortunatly not of the caliber that I was hoping for. It is boxed up and I will be returning it tomorrow. The distortion that was happening and inability to play sounds without sounding like it had blown out speakers was just too much for me.
